Onyx

Onyx is a calcareous stone with a very fine grain and veins running side by side. The translucent stone is synonymous with luxurious living and is often highly polished to reveal the colours and patterns. Even in the past, these stones were very popular because of their transparency and translucency. They are often so translucent that they were even used for church windows in ancient times. When the calcareous sinter deposits have gradually formed, the stones often have very attractive banding, which very often comes from iron deposits. The banding, however, can have many different colours from white to yellow, orange, red and even green. Most of the time, however, banding is yellowish, brownish or reddish.
